RFID Readers
IP-X Dual Frequency Long Range SPIDER Reader
The Dual Frequency “Spider” or 3960 Reader can operate as a single unit (linked to a PC, Middleware, or other control device) and can be connected to dual-loop antennas system, in order to span a portal, turnstile with a large aperture (2.4m). An external power supply is available, AC Mains input (110 – 230 V AC) (IP0903), which include filtering to minimise interference in the tag transmit band.
IP-X UHF High Performance Integrated Reader
The UHF High Performance readers are available in a wide range of power and frequency versions, and comply with ETSI(Europe) and FCC (USA) standards. The power level can be set to any value from 0.1 W to 8 W EIRP (EVI reader) or 5W EIRP(all other readers), and the frequency from 860 to 960 MHz, fixed or hopping. Some typical settings are:
- 4 W EIRP frequency-hopping in the 902 – 928 MHz ISM band – (USA and some South American countries)
- 1 W EIRP frequency-hopping in the 902 – 928 MHz ISM band (Australia)
- 500 mW ERP fixed frequency in the 869.4 - 869.65 MHz band (Europe)
- 4 W EIRP fixed frequency at 915.3 MHz (South Africa)The standard data output is RS232 with programmable baud rate and flow control.
Optional outputs include RS485, Ethernet, and Wiegand with RS232. All received IDs are date- and time-stamped in the reader. Supply is either from 12VDC or 90 -264VAC.These readers can read both Read-only and Read/Write tags, can read all the data pages transmitted by tags operating in“TTO” mode, and perform all read, write, and control functions pertaining to the operation of Read/Write tags. The antennas used are circularly polarized so that tags may be in any orientation. However, the reader is also available withlinearly polarised antennas specially suited for Electronic Vehicle Identification (EVI) purposes. Two versions of the “EVI” readerare available: (1) Ethernet comms for normal traffic monitoring, and (2) RS232 with Wiegand connection for access control.

IP-X Dual Frequency Conference Reader
The Conference Reader has a dual integrated loop antenna system, and can operate as a single unit (linked to a PC or other control device), or in conjunction with a second unit to span a portal, door way, or passage. When two Readers are operated together, the Reader connected to the PC is the “Master” unit, while the second Reader is the “Slave”. The Master controls the Slave Reader, receives its tag data, which it sends to the PC or DIMI together with its own received tag data. These readers provide an effective 2-Dimensional read ability – i.e. the tag may not be read reliably if its plane is horizontal.
RFID Tags
IPICO’s Dual Frequency RFID Technology uses the same IP-X multi-read protocol as its UHF products, but the low frequencies used, (125 kHz power-up and 6.8 MHz return signal), can penetrate through “lossy” media without the problems of tag antenna detuning, and the high attenuation encountered with UHF systems. Because of the high tag transmit carrier frequency, high data rates are achievable (up to 256 kbit/sec), resulting in fast reading of multiple tags in the beam. Dual Frequency technology allows for longer ranges to be achieved than single frequency low frequency technologies, e.g. 125 kHz or 13.56 MHz. This is mainly because the tag data carrier frequency (6.8 MHz) is much higher than the power-up frequency (125 kHz).
